Introducing mNotation™

mNotation™ is my little online random music notation generating project. It was first used in the presentation above, the Grand Opening of the Living Room Theaters & Culture and Society Building on the Boca Raton campus of Florida Atlantic University, on November 16, 2010. The composition, Trio for Brass and Digital Film “Ixion”, will be available online, soon. Big thanks to FAU Adjunct Music Faculty Charles Caputo and Brian Stanley, and Graduate Assistant Giovanni Garcia, for their fine performances! Read more about the performance, listen to a fantasy nonet version of the same piece (a mix of 3 parts of the 45 minute performance, for a little more density), and if you want to dance to it, mix it with one of these rhythmic tracks (1, 2, 3 – yes, mNotation™ mixes well/plays well with others)!

Of course, mNotation™ is not just for brass trio. mNotation™ can be performed for any length of time, and can involve any number of musicians playing any kind of instrument. The only catch is you need to be able to read traditional Western music notation. Check out the FAQ page if you’re not quite sure what this is, or find a part you can play and dive in to a performance. Read the tutorial if you’re not sure about a particular function or feature.

Welcome, and may fortune shine on . . . most of you!
